National Honor Society

National Honor Society

The purpose of National Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, promote leadership, and develop character in the students of Columbia High School. Our chapter was organized on February 17, 1955, and more than 1,000 students have been inducted as members.

Member selection process: At the beginning of the school year, students who achieved a specific unweighted GPA (3.5 for Juniors and 3.3 for Seniors on an unweighted scale) receive notice of their scholastic eligibility for NHS. These students receive an invitation to share how they represent the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, leadership, service and character. A faculty council reviews staff evaluations and Candidate Forms to determine which students will be selected for membership. Students who agree to abide by the obligations of NHS become active members when they participate in an induction ceremony.
