Note to Parents: For teaching reading strategies in both fiction (literature) and nonfiction (informational) text, we use the Café Literacy Menu strategies. CAFE stands for Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding vocabulary. As you read at home, these are great strategies to refer to and make sure your child is practicing!
Just click on the interactive Café Literacy menu link below and it will take you to all of our reading strategies that we learn and use throughout the year. By clicking on any strategy on the menu, it will take you to a webpage that will explain the strategy and give resources for that strategy.
These strategies can and should be used whenever you are reading to help with knowing how to read the words correctly, read the sentences and paragraphs naturally, understand what you are reading, and understanding the meaning of unknown or interesting words.
