Rural Urban Record - May 7, 2018
May 8th, Election Day, is a very important day for Columbia Local Schools.  We are asking for your support on Issues 2 and 3.  Both issues are renewal general fund operating levies and would require no additional or new taxes.  These funds generate about 25% of our budget.  It would be devastating to our schools if these ballot measures were to fail.  To see a list of the great things that are taking place in our schools and how we have managed our budget, please take a look at the State of the Schools presentation on our website.  It is truly remarkable how we are moving forward and giving our kids the best education possible and being fiscally responsible at the same time!  I want to thank our community as you have supported our schools in the past and it is my hope that you will continue to do so.  Please get out and vote in support of CLSD on Tuesday!  Thank you!

May 7th through the 11th is Staff Appreciation Week.  It is a week to pay tribute to our teachers and support staff.  I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank them for dedicating their lives to the education of our children.  The responsibility of educating students makes teaching one of the most important jobs there is.  The work of the dedicated people in CLSD is priceless.  Teacher and staff appreciation week presents a wonderful opportunity to thank the teachers and support staff for their commitment to children and for their contributions to our community.  The entire staff makes a difference in the lives of every student.  They are role models for all youth.  Their job is difficult and their responsibility great.  The staff literally holds the future of our children in their hands.  The education our children receive today will lead to their success later in life.  The staff not only teaches, they serve as mentors, role models, and confidants for our children.  Please find time to say thank you to the staff during the week.  All CLSD staff should be commended for a job well done throughout this school year.  With your continued hard work and determination, Columbia Local Schools will continue its rank of excellence.  Thank you to our staff for helping to build a brighter future one student at a time.

CHS Drama will present the musical, James and the Giant Peach, on Friday, May 18th at 7:00 pm and Saturday, May 19th at 7:00 pm.  Tickets can be purchased at the door.  The cost is $8.00 for general admission.  Students (18 and under) and seniors are $5.00.  These students have been working very hard for the show.  I hope that you have an opportunity to witness their amazing talents!

Congratulations to Mike Torok (March) and Ryan Hershey (April) as the recipients of our Raider Nation Excellence Award!   Thank you both for a job well done!  Also nominated were Carrie Atkinson and Graig Bansek.  We appreciate all of you and your contributions to CLSD!  Please remember to nominate an outstanding staff member who goes above and beyond by submitting a nomination through the link on our website.

Rural Urban Record - April 30, 2018
On Tuesday, May 8th CLSD will have two renewal levies on the ballot, Issue 2 and Issue 3.  Both of these levies are renewals and WILL NOT increase taxes.  The quality of our schools is critical to the health, economy, reputation and future of our community.  Most importantly, to ensure our students are fully prepared for college, careers and citizenship.  Passage of these levies will allow Columbia Local Schools to maintain a high-quality education, prepare our students for the jobs of the future, protect property values, retain highly qualified and dedicated employees, purchase new textbooks and upgrade educational technology.  Our schools play a vital role in Columbia Township as it is the largest employer in our town.  Please take the time to cast your vote on May 8th in support of Columbia Local Schools!  We Are Columbia!

Columbia Local Schools will be hiring four (4) summer workers this year.  Work will begin on June 4th and run for 59 days.  The workday begins at 6:30 am and ends at 2:30 pm.  Hourly rate is $8.30.  You must be a graduate and be 18 years of age or older and reside in Columbia.  If you are interested, please contact me by email.

I want to thank our staff, students and parents for their cooperation during state testing.  Our kids have been doing an excellent job during this process.  I know that testing can be a stressful time for all involved, but please know that we have supports in place to help any child.  I wish the students the best of luck as they finish up testing!

The next Senior Citizen breakfast will take place on Wednesday, May 16th at 8:45 am at CHS.  If you haven’t reserved your spot, please contact Mrs. Kobe at CHS at 236-5001 prior to May 14th.  We anticipate a large crowd as usual.  I look forward to seeing you there!
